COVID-19 Safety Precautions

Mahalo for your kokua in keeping our community and ohanas safe! And thank you for your understanding as we make adjustments to our protocols to ensure the safest experience for you and your loved ones.

Precautions we are taking:

  • We CANNOT visit your home if anyone present for appointment or residing in home:

    • Has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 within the last 14 days

    • Is under quarantine due to exposure to someone positive for SARS-CoV-2

    • Is awaiting the result of a SARS-CoV-2 test

    • Has experienced unexplained fever, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath in the last 14 days

  • Our veterinary team is happy to wear masks when in your home if you prefer. Our team members will not be allowed to come into contact with clients if they are showing signs of illness or have known exposure to/reside with someone positive for SARS-CoV-2

  • We are currently limiting in-home euthanasias to 8 family members + vet staff

Recommendations:

  • Hold appointment outside if possible (e.g. covered lanai, under favorite tree, carport, etc)

  • If indoors, recommend a large, well-ventilated room with space for social distancing

  • Consider time of day, noise levels/traffic, lighting, and environment desired when scheduling your appointment

If there are any other precautions we can take or things we can do to make you more comfortable, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate!

Cancelling or Rescheduling Appointments

We understand that this can be a challenging decision and that situations may change with our elderly patients. If your pet’s condition changes or you need to cancel your scheduled appointment for personal reasons, kindly let us know as soon as possible. The following fees will apply:

  • No cancellation fee if you cancel at least 8 hrs prior to appointment

  • Cancellation fee within 8 hrs of appointment - $100

  • Cancellation fee within 2 hrs of appointment - $200

  • Cancellation fee if doctor has already left for appointment or arrives at your home - $250

If you need to cancel your appointment and would like to reschedule for a later date/time, we are happy to apply a credit to your account, minus the cancellation fee (if applicable), for a future appointment.

Mahalo for your understanding of this policy! We are a one doctor practice with limited after-hours and weekend appointment times. We try to help as many families as possible, but due to the time it takes to travel to/from homes across the island, our availability is limited. Last minute cancellations prevent us from being able to help another pet and family in need!

Do I need to do anything in preparation for euthanasia?

We recommend thinking about what you envision when you say “aloha a hui hou”. Who will be present? Where would you like it to take place? What time of day? We would love to hear about your vision so we can try to create that for you!

Are there activities they still enjoy that you’d like to share with them? Maybe playing on the beach, going for one last car ride, or a walk to their favorite park. Pets who are still interested in food often enjoy having their favorite snacks or even trying “forbidden” treats…steak, burgers, poke, ice cream, chocolate, etc. Feel free to prepare anything yummy for a special treat during their appointment! We will take care of the rest :)

What happens to my pet after euthanasia?

We work directly with O’ahu Pet Crematory to provide loving and respectful aftercare for your loved one. If you elect to pursue cremation, your pet will be transported to O’ahu Pet Crematory for aftercare services.

  • For private cremation, ashes will be returned in a mahogany urn wrapped in a velvet bag. We will call you to arrange pickup or delivery when your pet is ready to return home. Additional specialty and personalized urns available for an additional cost - catalog available at https://www.oahupetcrematory.com/services

  • For communal cremation, ashes are scattered in the beautiful blue waters of Kaneohe Bay.

If you choose to pursue a home burial, we will provide an ecological burial bag.
